buying costumes for the mutation-rehearsals
today we were searching for costumes for the mutation-rehearsals.
we met in very famous and cheap second-hand-shop, called humana.
it has 4 floors, and one floor specially calles "TREND". it took hours till we found something for every actor. we were just 4. miriam, rahel, niels and myself and dirk, as the director had a look at all our choices.
this humana-shops (there are a few of them in berlin) are supporting "third-world-projects" and helping-programs. look at http://www.humana-de.org/
after 3 hours we werde exhausted but still not finished. miriam and i went to the western part of berlin in a "H&M". http://www.hm.com

its a chain of department-stores, which sells fancy and cheap clothes, spread all over germany. and they have there own sort of "third-world-project". they let produce their clothes very cheap in china and india, and i think at a lot of other places.

The idea of a character
We have been working for four days now together and it was surprising for me to get the task to invent a chacter for mutation piece or the material we want to develop. Everybody who writes in the mutation workspace does this more or less as a private person, so I did not expect to develop a character who is m´not myself.
I have not been working with Lubricat for more than two years now, but now it comes into my mind that one's part became allways a mixtrure from your own stories and stories from others or, true or invented.
So what´s behind the idea of inventing a character? What´s meant by this idea, how narrow and open is it to be unterstood?
Right now I think to invent a character is like to put on new glasses or different glasses from others whith their colors and to describe what you see through them in a new way.
It´s like a medium or a special focus through which your observationswill go and which can give them a new frame, occuparion or direction. (In the end I don´t want to play an actor!)
In the end the importance of the character can be very insignificant and it will be much more important what kind of communication you have with others on stage or the audience. The quality of this communication still is very much defined by your choice of character. Are you for example more free or dependent on others, hopeful or depressed, how do you move and what are your wishes. Until now we thought for us about characters like: a nurse, an unemplyoes, a fraud and a detective or agent and made single improvisations to invent the biography and circumstances of that person and started also to communicate as a charater wtith the other character. by martin clausen, Berlin

first week
This weeks rehearsal started with reading the concept again – to understand what we are doing! The whole topic lead to many discussions about everything, we found that we have to keep a clear head and focus on simple things. The globalisation is taking place in everyday live and history all over the world ( be it Spanish settlement in Southamerica or my Chinese bike). How can we see what it is and where it is? How can we meet people from other ends of the world?
The whole process here is new because we have to find the way of rehearsing and looking onto the world ourselves. A way to look at people, situations, things is through the eye of “dirty realism”: that is try to look and ask: What is it? How does it work?
To do this we thought of two tools that could help us to take this closer look.
1. by looking for opposites/poles/ideals, that embrace our reality:
sacred – banal
fiction – reality
global – local
man – woman

We said that our live is the mixed mass between these poles and that it might be that we need the big words (sacred, fiction…) to make small things clear.

After these discussions and ideas we had a brainstorming on mutation-121-topics, the topic DYING + all 11 areas (government-dying, concumption-dying…) and on Thursday we taped the berlin cast.
Saturday Dirk, Rahel and I went to the ethnological Museum to take a look at you folks: we were looking for the Richmond indians, Nigeria and China. There was no ethnological history of Argentina! We shot two little films and took fotos.

mutation on exhibition
last week in weimar the bauhaus-university was pricing works of former students. so am i. the mutation workspace gots an acknowledgement and will be shown in the main building for two weeks.
